“The Moon King” is the A-Side off of Marcel Wave’s double A-Side of the same name. This song, taking influence from the story of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, also directly informed the artistic stylings off the video, which was conceptualized with a rough storyboard by the artist. Taking up these notes for the production direction of the video, the artist shots were then filmed in front of a black screen and green screen, then went through intensive compositing and animation to create an effect that is somewhat reminiscent of old fantasy, sci-fi films of the very early days of cinema, including the “man on the moon” character, wind heads, hot air balloons and other flights of fancy.
